Did you ever wish you could collect rare books? In Codex Conquest: The Game of Book History (http://codexconquest.lib.uiowa.edu/), YOU are the curator for a national collection, acquiring books from the 15th century onward while completing with other countries for the greatest collection, and must contend with events that could impact your library along the way.
Amy Hildreth Chen, Special Collections Instruction Librarian at the University of Iowa and the game's creator, will be coming to Columbia to discuss the game creation process and demonstrate the game at multiple sessions on April 24. The Center for Teaching and Learning will also give a session on alternative methods of teaching. On April 25, we will discuss customization of the game, including a demonstration of a version tailored to Jewish book history.
Note: There will be three sessions of game play for the original game, and one session for the Jewish book version. You must register for one (or more) sessions separately. The CTL pedagogy and gaming session is for faculty and teaching graduate students, and will have a separate registration.
Co-sponsored by the Rare Book & Manuscript Library and the Global Studies Division, Columbia University Libraries.
