This exhibition revolves around what constitutes as “ephemera” in today’s art world, which is not something so easily defined. How do artists imbue power/meaning into ephemera from their own studio practice (wood scraps, old bills, studio notes…) or transform the meaning of found ephemera by incorporating it into their own work? How does this change the lifespan of the object preserved? The exhibition will include ephemera from artists’ practices as well as finished pieces that incorporate the concept. It will also include materials loaned from the Los Angeles Contemporary Archive (LACA).
